Waterline Square stands as one of the most ambitious and comprehensive residential developments ever built on the Upper West Side. Set amid over five acres of landscaped parkland with access to 100,000 square feet of unmatched amenities, the development establishes a new benchmark for extraordinary urban living.
Groves & Co. led the interior design of Three Waterline Square, a shimmering 36-story tower by Rafael Viñoly. Encompassing 214 residences with panoramic river, park, and skyline views, the interiors—from lobby to amenities to private homes—express a cultivated, artistic, and naturally luxurious design language.
The primary challenge lay in crafting interiors that could match the architectural drama of Viñoly’s angled-glass tower while delivering a warm, livable, and distinctly elevated residential experience.
The design needed to harmonize large-scale public spaces, intensely detailed amenities, and highly customized residences—each requiring its own identity yet unified through a cohesive aesthetic. Balancing opulence with modern restraint, and spectacle with intimacy, was essential.
Groves & Co. responded with interiors that mirror the tower’s sculptural clarity while celebrating texture, craftsmanship, and refined materiality.
Lobby & Public Spaces:
Residents enter through a soaring double-height lobby shaped by a faceted ceiling with angled light slots that echo the tower’s crystalline geometry. Dramatic silver-bronze metal panels line the space, while a shimmering chandelier of subtly hued glass orbs glows behind a vertical metal screen—a nod to the intricate patterns of surrounding limestone. The procession leads toward a serene private garden, seamlessly balancing grandeur and calm.
Amenity Levels:
Glamour defines the amenity suite, where onyx fireplaces, bespoke bookcases, and a dramatic double-height limestone-and-glass room create a sophisticated environment for gathering and relaxation. A spectacular dining room—detailed with blackened steel and polished nickel inlay—supports large-scale entertaining, while a media and game room anchors the casual side of the building. Above it all, a custom celestial light installation unifies the spaces beneath a star-studded glow. Expansive outdoor terraces extend the lifestyle beyond the interiors.
