The Wainscott Residence is a 5,000-square-foot modern home reimagined with a fresh, inviting outlook. The renovation introduced larger windows, new skylights, and expansive openings that flood the interiors with natural light and highlight the surrounding landscape.
A palette of soft neutrals and bleached white oak flooring adds warmth to the house’s clean geometric lines, while upgraded kitchens and bathrooms bring contemporary comfort to this refined weekend retreat.
The challenge was to revive an aging modern structure without compromising its architectural clarity. The home required more natural light, updated amenities, and a renewed sense of sophistication—all while maintaining the quiet restraint appropriate for a serene Hamptons escape.
The design also needed to harmonize the couple’s urbane sensibility with the relaxed coastal environment.
The renovation embraced light, texture, and timeless materials. Larger window openings and strategically placed skylights brighten the interiors and frame views of the outdoors. Bleached white oak flooring and a neutral palette soften the structure’s strong geometry, creating cohesion from room to room. An eclectic mix of vintage pieces and custom-designed furnishings—rich woods, raw silk, linen, and natural textures—infuses the home with character and depth.
At the heart of the residence, the double-height living room serves as a serene focal point. White sheer draperies, ceruse-oak and linen-webbed chairs, and bespoke upholstery surround a grand travertine and patina bronze coffee table. A French limestone hearth and oversized leather-wrapped circular mirror complete the dramatic yet understated composition.
In the master suite, a variation on the central palette introduces luxurious materials such as mahogany, satin, cashmere, and silk to create a glamorous, enveloping retreat. Throughout the home, a curated art collection explores water-themed works—from coastal black-and-white photography to graphic interpretations of natural wonders—deepening the connection to place.
Outside, long planes of ipe decking extend from the house and cascade toward the pool, creating sunbathing terraces and a spa-like outdoor shower.
