A historic dwelling reimagined as the quintessential Soho loft, blending industrial character with family-friendly design and sophisticated, modern living.
With a strong sense of history and place, this large residence was transformed into the ideal Soho loft for a modern, active family. The design brings together sumptuous materials, durable fabrics, and a neutral color palette to create a relaxed yet elegant environment — perfect for casual family life and sophisticated entertaining. By merging industrial charm with contemporary comforts, the home balances style and practicality in a uniquely urban way.
The family needed a home that functioned as both a lively, activity-filled space for their children and a refined setting for evening entertaining.
The original layout lacked storage and separation between work and play, while the design aesthetic required a balance between rugged, industrial elements and a chic, contemporary feel. Maximizing functionality without compromising style was key to the renovation.
The redesign introduced a series of innovative architectural features to meet these needs. A sculptural partition made of salvaged metal plates creates a striking visual element while subtly dividing the formal living area from the children’s playroom and study. Along one wall, custom millwork conceals a two-foot-deep storage zone, with large ceruse oak barn doors that glide open to reveal space for toys, books, and art supplies — keeping the area lively by day and serene by night.
The kitchen, finished with Calacatta marble counters, light oak cabinetry, and polished nickel hardware, blends warmth and functionality. A row of custom wine coolers with blackened-steel doors links the kitchen to the dining area, where a vintage-inspired chandelier illuminates a cast iron and textured oak dining table.
A third bedroom, created from recaptured space, features blackened steel factory windows with ribbed glass, bringing natural light and architectural interest. Throughout the home, a mix of vintage and custom furnishings, layered textures, and unique pendant lighting combine to form a space that feels modern, inviting, and unmistakably Soho.
