The original ranch, though functional, felt dated and disconnected from its beautiful wooded site. The homeowners wanted to modernize the home’s structure and interiors while strengthening its connection to the landscape.
The challenge was to balance aesthetic sophistication with comfort and practicality, creating a home that felt current, deeply personal, and perfectly suited for both relaxation and entertaining.
The renovation began with a full exterior refresh, including a new roof, siding, windows, and doors, restoring the home’s clean modernist character. The driveway was relocated to improve privacy and flow, culminating in a series of tiered wooden landings that link the dwelling to its surroundings. In the rear, stepped platforms define zones for lounging, dining, and sunbathing, complemented by aged teak furniture, subtle neutral tones, and turquoise accents. A carefully sited gunite pool with built-in spa, bordered by evergreen hedges, frames uninterrupted views of the adjacent nature preserve.
Inside, soaring pitched ceilings create drama and space for an oversized Noguchi fixture above a carefully curated collection of furnishings by design icons such as Hans Wegner, Marcel Breuer, and Finn Juhl, blended with custom contemporary pieces. Warm woods, natural fibers, and luxurious textiles balance rustic simplicity with understated elegance, while subtle chrome accents add a touch of sparkle.
The kitchen was reconfigured for modern convenience, featuring grey lacquer cabinets, crisp white stone counters, and stainless steel appliances. Bedrooms were designed “hotel-style,” each with custom white oak beds and cantilevered wall units, while bathrooms feature cork floors, grey Baltic stone, and metallic details for a serene spa-like experience. Throughout the home, evocative artwork by celebrated photographers and artists echoes the natural landscape, completing this modern, timeless sanctuary.
