This midtown Manhattan residence was transformed by combining two adjoining apartments and reimagining them into a single, cohesive home. The result is a light-filled, open space that celebrates clean, modern design while showcasing the clients’ appreciation for Asian art and antiques.

The original apartments featured a standard, segmented layout that felt closed off and lacked flow. The clients wanted a space that not only maximized natural light and openness but also reflected their personal style and love for Asian-inspired design.
The challenge was to merge the two apartments seamlessly, elevate the sense of height and scale, and create an atmosphere of calm sophistication without compromising functionality for a busy city lifestyle.
The design team executed a full gut renovation, reconfiguring the space to form a central living, dining, and entry area surrounded by the kitchen, family room, office, and three bedrooms. Custom millwork, ceiling-height doors, and window frames created clean, continuous planes that enhanced the vertical dimension of each room. A muted color palette was used to visually expand the space, accented by vibrant, spicy red-orange fabrics for warmth and energy.
Natural textiles such as silk, linen, wool, and sateen add subtle texture and softness, while a curated mix of mid-century modern furniture and Asian pieces creates harmony between contemporary and traditional influences. The final result is a tranquil, loft-like home that feels both timeless and deeply personal.
